What NOT to say to a pregnant woman

• Unless a woman tells you she's pregnant, don't ask.

• In the 70's? What history book have you been reading? Hospital births were common LONG before the 70's. And the mortality rate for moms & babies was MUCH MUCH higher before hospital births.

• Not everyone sees it as a beautiful thing, hence comments like "you're as big as a house", "are you ready to drop it tomorrow", "are you sure it's not twins (implying that you are REALLY big), "you're going to have an awful time losing all that weight"....etc. etc. etc.

• When you are already feeling like a whale, the last thing you need is for someone to say that you are ready to explode. It's called sensitivity.

• But you don't need to point it out to the woman as if she doesn't already know it. That's just rude.

• When I was pregnant with my first, I was due in October. We had a pretty hot summer & it was July. We saw some woman my husband knew at the grocery store in July. She asked how I was making out in the heat (a perfectly reasonable question).
